Trailer for AMC's Preacher promises sin

Lots and lots of sin, from the looks of things. And dark, brooding Southern U.S. of A. atmosphere. And some supernatural goings on of course, given the source material. In other words, I think AMC has a pretty big hit on its hands with Preacher, which is based on DC/Vertigo's long running cult comics series. Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon piloted the comic book, which was at once funny, scary and quite gruesome.

TV Review: Halt and Catch Fire (AMC)

Matt Bellamy here. AMC has made available the first episode in their latest original series, ' Halt and Catch Fire ', ahead of its June 1st premiere date, and I have seen it! How does it stack up against other AMC greats such as Mad Men , Breaking Bad , and The Killing? Let's find out. 'Halt and Catch Fire' tells a fictionalized, and dramatized story set in 1983 centred around a group of computer programmers attempting to reverse engineer an IBM computer. Why would anyone want to do such a thing? Well, aside from being quite illegal, it could also be potentially extremely beneficial in a number of ways--financially, and technologically.

AMC buys rights to Dan Simmons' novel The Terror

I read Dan Simmons ' period horror tale The Terror back in 2008 and thought it'd make for one kick ass movie or miniseries. And, true to what happens here in The Basement when it comes to Shawn and I getting cool ideas, someone was listening and made it happen. AMC revealed today that its purchased the rights to Simmons' epic novel , which is set in 1847 and follows a naval expedition through the Northwest Passage . The challenges of cold and land begin to seem ordinary in the face of a grotesque monster that lurks near the ships.  The TV version of The Terror is being written by David Kajganich, who is adapting Stephen King's The Stand for the big screen . Kajganich will also executive produce alongside Ridley Scott , David Zucker , Alexandra Milchan, Scott Lambert, Meghan Lyvers, and novelist Simmons.  If done right, this will be a winner up there with AMC's The Walking Dead. It's a big, scary story that only falters toward the end. Spoiler alert...

The Dead Will Walk On Halloween

This isn't a trailer for a movie, but it might as well be. AMC announced today that its highly anticipated new serial thriller The Walking Dead premieres with a 90-minute episode on -- wait for it -- Halloween night! For those of you who have no idea what The Walking Dead is, then shame on you! Robert Kirkman's ongoing black and white comic book is great stuff and ripe for translating into a TV show. The series will be helmed by three-time Academy Award winner Frank Darabont, the director of The Shawshank Redemption. Colour us excited. Zombies rule, especially when done right!
