A24's Saint Maud brings horror home for Easter

A24 has firmly established itself as the go-to place for indie horror with the likes of Midsommer, The Witch, The Lighthouse and more. Now they're tackling religious horror with the upcoming Saint Maud. The story is about a hospice nurse who believes God works through her. Naturally, given this is a religious-themed horror flick, things take a dark turn when Maud decides to not only comfort an ailing patient, but save her soul as well. Check out this admittedly intense trailer: Yeah, I'm gonna need to see this one me thinks. Saint Maud is the first feature from director Rose Glass, and I'm thinking she's going to be the next big thing. This movie looks fantastic! Saint Maud hits theatres April 3. Source: A24

Buried treasure flick Low Tide gets a clip

A24 has secured themselves as the go-to place for high-quality genre cinema. The Witch, Hereditary, Ex Machina. The list goes on. The upcoming Low Tide looks to continue that trend, with writer/director Kevin McMullin exploring the dark side of The Goonies. The film details how the discovery of a bag of gold coins impacts a group of friends. Note, the group of friends already rob rich people's homes in order to fund their summer fun. I'm sure things go downhill for the gang pretty quickly. Here's a clip: Low Tide stars Daniel Zolghadri, Kristine Froseth and Mike Hodge. It's available right now on DirecTV, and in select theatres Oct 4. Source: A24

New trailer for The Lighthouse is pure madness

I don't get it. I mean, I dig writer/director Robert Eggers' The Witch a lot. It's a haunting, realistic, yet nightmarish period horror film. The dude's got major talent. But The Lighthouse...? I've held off on checking out any of the trailers until now. The film hits theatres in a few short weeks, and my curiosity finally got the better of me. Now that I've watched the latest preview, all I can say is "what?" Which is pretty much all stars Willem Dafoe and Robert Pattinson say too. Observate: See what I mean!?! I'm obviously going to check this one out, but I'm preparing myself for something completely different. Completely. Different. The Lighthouse hits limited theatres Oct. 18. Source: A24

New The Witch trailer goes peek a boo

A24's The Witch is getting great reviews. Check that, stellar reviews, with some critics saying it's the best horror movie to come down the pike in years. This makes it a must see in my books. And, truth is, Shawn and I have been invited to a screening in Vancouver next week. Whether or not we go depends on travel arrangements etc, but I sure hope one or both of us can pull it off.
