The MONTH of HORROR - Day 21: The Lords of Salem

The Salem Witch Trials were a notorious period in American history, and over time it's been over-exaggerated to the point where many believe it was some kind of genocide however the amount of deaths that occurred were not extreme. I'm not making light of this horrible time, not at all but with twenty confirmed executions, it certainly was not the all out slaughter-fest that some fables, stories, and lore over the years have instilled in us. The stories are intriguing though, what if there really were witches who were communicating with the dark lord Satan? What if there was some truth to all this?

Ten movies to watch for in 2013

One of the things Shawn and I get a lot of props for is finding those diamonds in the rough -- the movies that are likely not on everyone's radar -- and bringing them to the public's attention. Some are C-grade indie, others mainstream flicks that still don't get the attention they may or may not deserve. Below are 10 movies I'm looking forward to seeing in the new year, in no particular order. But first, the obvious runners up, those blockbusters that can't be ignored: A Good Day to Die Hard, Man of Steel, G.I. Joe: Retaliation, Iron Man 3, The Lone Ranger, Fast and Furious 6, Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, Pacific Rim and Star Trek Into Darkness. Now for the list proper: The Conjuring (July 19) Saw and Insidious director James Wan's latest horror flick reveals how world renowned paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren were called upon to help a family terrorized by a dark presence in a secluded farmhouse. Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson star...

Trailer round up: The Lords of Salem, Parker and 7500

It's trailer day in The Basement folks, with three -- count 'em three -- movie trailers for your eye holes. How much do you we love you all? Three trailers much. First up is the long awaited first look at Rob Zombie's latest flick, and it looks like it's gonna be suitably creepy. The film comes at us by way of Anchor Bay Films, but no release date has been set. The Lords of Salem stars Sheri Moon Zombie, Bruce Davison, Ken Foree, and Dee Wallace.Without further adieu: Next is our man Jason Statham putting foot to ass in his latest flick Parker. Speaking of ass, looks like he gets to tap Jennifer Lopez. Good for him. Michael Chiklis and Nick Nolte also star. Parker hits us on Jan. 25, 2013. Looks like fun! Lastly we've got a peek at the upcoming supernatural horror film 7500 from The Grudge director Takashi Shimizu. This one is set on an airplane and features Leslie Bibb, Ryan Kwanten, and Amy Smart. 7500 has been delayed for some time and is set to come...

Zombie heads to Salem for his next film

The shock rocker film turds unfairly pissed on for his remake of Halloween is almost ready to get back behind the cameras. Rob Zombie told The List his next film, The Lords of Salem, should begin pre-production in March with a planned production start scheduled for June. The film, based on his original script, follows a DJ in Salem, Mass., who unwittingly unleashes a horde of demons when she plays a cursed record. Ten bucks says the demons could have something to do with all those witches burned at the stake in that state. I've dug pretty much everything Zombie has done film wise and enjoy most of his music. We in The Basement will give the movie a view when it eventually hits theatres.
