OK, so we were all a little surprised to learn Emperor Palpatine would return for The Rise of Skywalker. It was the kind of filmmaking move guaranteed to get fans talking, and amp up excitement for the final chapter in the Skywalker saga. Today, Disney and Lucasfilm dropped a bomb of sorts with a new clip teasing the role Palpatine has played in the Star Wars universe since the end of Return of the Jedi. It's a bit spoilery, so you've been warned. All I know is I'm just a little more excited for this one than I was about 10 minutes ago. You ready for this? There's less than a month to go until Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker hits theatres, and the Disney marketing machine is in full swing. I was hesitant to post this clip, which came out earlier today. Like many, I want to go into this thing as cold as possible. Then I said "what the hell" and watched it anyway. And now I post it here for those of you who also have a Devil-may-care attitude. Enjoy! The Rise of Skywalker hits theatres Dec. 20, and J.J. Abrams and company have promised to conclude the entire Skywalker saga with this one. Then we get a three-year break before any more stand-alone films surface. Alright, the weekend is upon us and everyone's focused on some well-deserved R and R, and probably a liquor drink or six. But before we let you go -- at least until the next episode drops on Sunday -- we've got a few news items for your eye and ear holes. First up, how about that teaser for Netflix and Marvel's The Punisher that debuted at the tail end of The Defenders?

Something isn't real until we in The Basement say it is, and so be it the case with the Rogue One: A Star Wars Story teaser. Sure, it appeared online hours ago, but we're posting it now. And that makes it real.

Yes, Basementites, the era of the teaser teaser is alive and well. Sure, teasing a teaser seems like a pointless exercise, as the teaser is supposed to tease the trailer, which teases the movie. My head hurts.

Stan Lee, the mastermind behind Marvel Comics and the Marvel brand, seems to think an epic crossover between the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the Star Wars galaxy created by George Lucas could happen. Suffice to say, Stan Lee has quite the imagination!

The most anticipated movie of all time is here, and Shawn and sometime Basement contributor Anthony Michael Bosa have seen it. That's right, we're talkin' Star Wars: The Force Awakens!

Well, The Basement's last word on reboots, remakes and rewhatevers. I know movie geeks will go on and on about how Hollywood has run out of original ideas and is just riding the gravy train of successful franchises. No matter what is said here, that will be the general opinion among film bloggers. And they'll be right.

Hey, folks- Mike S popping in to drop the down low on some cool " Star Wars " news.  Now, we already know that Disney bought the rights to the " Star Wars " franchise, right?  Right. We ALSO know that Disney has said that they will be producing three more movies in the series, right?  Right. Now, the news you may not have heard yet: JJ Abrams has been brought on board to direct the first of the new movies. That's right. The man that helped to bring " Star Trek " to a brand new -- and exciting, beginning will hopefully bring the same excitement, enthusiasm, and skill to the new " Star Wars " film. Originally, Abrams declined the position when first approached, but Kathleen Kennedy ( Lucasfilm Chief), was ultimately able to bring him to the table and take the job.
