Marcus Flor revisits From Dusk Till Dawn (1996)

I think one of the best ways to see how much you've changed is to rewatch a classic movie. I wasn't sure how From Dusk Till Dawn would play this time around, but I got somewhat surprised. From what I could remember, this movie was going to be a fun splatter-fest that I'd enjoy having splash across my screen. Sure, the first half didn't really elude to that, but I remembered it being a good lead up. What surprised me this time around is that I enjoyed the first half way more than the second. While still a bit over-the-top, the first half is an intense crime thriller that's got grit and darkness to it. George Clooney and Quentin Tarantino do a great job of making you care about these volatile and twisted brothers (Quentin being the most twisted). Seeing their dynamic, and they dynamic with Harvey Keitel's family, made me curious to see how their story would play out. Now I knew it wouldn't play out in the long run, because I already knew what was waiti...

The Basement and From Dusk Till Con

As long-time Basementites know, our fine program spent three and a half seasons on 92.5FM CFBX Kamloops , and they were good times indeed. Earlier this season we ventured out on our own, going Internet first off of this site to much success. For that, we thank each and every one of you who stuck with us. Now a new era is about to begin as The Basement becomes part of From Dusk Till Con's online radio network . What is From Dusk Till Con? It's a website dedicated to the horror genre and related conventions, most specifically Days of the Dead, a travelling horror convention with ties to Fangoria and Bloody Disgusting .

The Month of Horror Day 26: From Dusk Till Dawn

Basement contributor Matt Bellamy has taken it upon himself to watch and review at least one horror movie a day for the month of October . . . because he's awesome that way! Tonight, Bellamy offers you a two for one pussy sale. You know, I really hate to say it but this flick has not aged well and is not nearly as enjoyable as I once found it although it's entirely possible that watching it stone sober was a catastrophic choice. It starts well, it does, as the two main anti-heroes played by George Clooney and Quentin Tarantino, fugitives on the run, seek refuge in a Mexican bar/brothel called "The Titty Twister". What's disappointing about this film is that it seriously starts out SO good, you're completely engaged and glued to the screen by everything that is happening--Salma Hayek in her prime as a stripper makes that extremely easy, too. It's once the bar patrons are rev...
