No one, but no one, kicks ass like Jason Statham. And Killer Elite offers the action star ample opportunity to kick ass. But it also has a multilayer plot and solid performances from co-stars Clive Owen, Robert De Niro and Dominc Purcell. Oh yes, and there is the hotness that is Yvonne Strahovski. This is a solid action picture let down only by over length and a finale that doesn't offer enough non-stop boom. Minor gripes aside, this is a kick-ass thriller with a great performance by Statham and some solid set pieces. I especially enjoyed seeing the man kick two people's asses while tied to a chair. The Stath is pure badass. A Good from me.

Clive Owen and horror aren't words I ever expected to see together in a sentence, but such is the reality of the new home invader flick Intruders. Directed by Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, who made the surprisingly great 28 Weeks Later, Intruders features Owen as a father trying to unravel the mystery of Hollow Face, a mysterious figure who is tormenting his daughter. Creepy, nightmare-like imagery ensues as Hollow Face draws every closer to the girl. Is it just me, or have hoodies become the new Shatner mask or horror? Just throwing that out there. The film plays at SXSW from March 13 to 15 and hits theatres March 30. Shawn's retired from watching trailers, but I've seen this one and think it looks right up our alley here in The Basement. We like scary, and this promises to be all kinds of scary.

What do you get when Jason Statham, Robert De Niro and Clive Owen are cast in the same action picture? Enough testosterone to power a planet that's what! Even Matt Bellamy agrees Killer Elite looks like an action fan's wet dream. The film, due out in September, features Statham as a former special-ops agent lured out of retirement to save his mentor (De Niro) from an evil Brit (Owen). Cue mayhem. I'm a huge Statham fan and seeing De Niro kick ass puts a big ole smile on my face. Owen seems perfectly cast. Throw in some 80s power metal and we're good to G-O.
