Review: Sweet Pain AKA Dolorosa Gioia

I was warned going into Sweet Pain, the latest from John Fallon's Bruise Productions, that I was in for a highly compelling art-house film. With that in mind, and knowing right out the gate this wouldn't satiate my Friday night blood lust, I forwent an evening watch with beer and whisky, and opted to give director Gonzalo Lopez's Giallo-inspired flick a morning viewing accompanied by a cup of tea. That's right: a cup of tea. Wanna fight about it?

The Basement's own Shawn and Billy Trigger

It's no secret yours truly got himself shot to death on the set of Billy Trigger little more than a year ago. What Basementites might not be aware of is our own Shawn has contributed music to the Montreal -based action film . That's right, this musically talented mofo wrote and performs the flick's end credits song Pull the Trigger, a bad ass piece of hard rock/heavy metal perfect for a movie like this. You heard his work as lead singer for The Stars of Fiction earlier this week. Check out his solo tunes right here . Also contributing music to the flick -- which our man John Fallon wrote and stars in under Christian Viel's direction -- are French actor, musician and composer Rurik Salle. His band Fugu Dal Bronx perform Dead March, Insistation, Musoo and Twist the Knife. Franck Barraud contributes an instrumental song called No Limits. Anderson Bradshaw, Deke Richards , Meghan Gabruch and the great Fred "The Hammer" Williamson co-star in Billy ...

Three more enter John Fallon's The Shelter

Who's excited for John Fallon's directorial debut The Shelter? I know everyone here in The Basement is, for a variety of reasons. We eagerly await the start of production in January, 2014. The horror flick is rocketing through pre-production and recently added three peeps behind and in front of the camera. They join legendary leading man Michael Pare . First up is director of photography Bobby Holbrook, a second generation director, producer, cinematographer and production manager and part owner of Holbrook Multi Media, which has been in the business for 36 years. Sounds like the man knows what he's doing. On the casting front, John has hired a pair of lovely ladies. Gayle James, who recently wrapped Bad Country with Willem DaFoe, Amy Smart , Tom Berenger and Mat Dillon, will play Pare's wife Maryam. Rachel Whittle, who's appeared in high-profile flicks like G.I. Joe: Retaliation , Beautiful Creatures and Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter plays A...

Post production begins on Billy Trigger

It's been a long ass time since we've provided Basementites with an update on the Montreal -based action flick Billy Trigger. You know, the movie that stars John Fallon and Fred Williamson -- otherwise known as The Hammer . The movie I get killed in. Well, word hit today via Fallon himself that post production has begun on the shoot 'em up . It's all in the hands of the editor, sound designer and composer now. That composer is our own Shawn , by the way. No word yet on when Billy Trigger will get released. But you know damn well we'll keep you posted. In case you've been living under a rock these last several months, here's what the flick is all about: I rish mobster Billy Trigger has been the O’Brien family’s number one enforcer for three years now. And for good reason: he is cold, calculating and relentless and has never tackled a job he couldn’t finish. His life is trouble-free and solitary and consists mainly of three things: loose wome...
