Review: Jason Bourne

Fifty-six per cent on Rotten Tomatoes. That's it. Only 56 per cent of lamestream critics liked the new Jason Bourne movie. The chief complaint among them is the latest entry in the long-running series is too much like the other films. Which critics generally loved. I watched Jason Bourne last night, and yes, it's a lot like the previous entries in the series, which I loved. There's brilliantly staged set pieces, a couple of harrowing car chases, some brutal beat downs and a bunch of hi-tech, international espionage.

Shawn Joins The Men In Black

Shawn here.  Last night I finally took in Men In Black 3. Are YOU a fan of these movies?  If so, it makes a good watch.  Same chemistry, same actors, same director, same (ish) writers..etc. Same feel, no surprises. Felt familiar, yet offered something different.  There was a little more "people" violence for one, but still carried the chemistry of the previous two. There is a bit more story here as well, a bit more complex, but an evolution of the other two movies. I dug the other two.  Dug this one.  If you are a Men In Black "fanboy" or "fanperson" (for "political correctness"), then you likely have a gripe. Or two.  But the waaaaambulance is all tied up. I don't have a gripe.  It was an easy enough movie to get into and wash my brain of the days' stresses. No "re introduction" of the characters, just story. That said, the biggest satisfaction here was Josh Brolin .  He commanded a spectacular performance as the ...

The Men in Black are back

Will Smith looks old. That's the first thing that popped into my mind while watching the teaser for Men in Black 3. Sure, Tommy Lee Jones looks old too. But he was kinda old when the first Men in Black hit theatres back in 1997. Smith was young then. Guess I was too. Now we're all growed up and he's rich and famous and I'm not. But I'm happy, and that's all that matters. The first Men in Black was awesome. The second . . . not so much. There's been a lot of bad buzz about the third in terms of script and budget etc. None of that is unusual when it comes to big summer movies. And this is going to be a big summer movie. But does the film look any good. The teaser below looks OK. I didn't laugh once and have a hard time caring about a third entry in a 15-year-old film series. I'm probably alone on that train of thought so, submitted for your approval, is the teaser trailer for Men in Black 3, which hits theatres this summer.

The final, and best, Captain America trailer arrives

And it's a chill-inducing, smile-creating gem. More action. More Hugo Weaving. More Tommy Lee Jones. More Howling Commandos. More music by Tool. This is going to be THE summer movie to see in my opinion. A period comic book adventure that, as far as this trailer is concerned, has the heart and tone of an old-school action picture. Think Raiders of the Lost Ark with a super hero. Sold! But why not watch the trailer for yourselves and sound off!
