Friday the 13th brings a Silent Retreat

Fresh off a Best Canadian Feature win at last year's Toronto After Dark festival, audiences are getting a chance to check out director Tricia Lee's supernatural horror film Silent Retreat in theatres.

And you know you gotta support good Canadian horror, right!?! Well, you do! Especially when it opens on Friday the 13th.

Silent Retreat is about Janey, a troubled youth sent to a silent meditation retreat in the middle of the woods in order to avoid jail time. She discovers that the intimidating Doctor who runs the retreat is brainwashing the girls to be subservient women. If Janey doesn’t follow his rules, she’ll discover what lurks beyond the trees, and what happens to those who don’t embrace the silence.

When you watch the trailer below, pay close attention to who plays the doctor. You might recognize him.

Yup, that was Familiar's Robert Nolan in full bad dude form He owned in that great short film, and his presence alone guarantees we'll be checking Silent Retreat out. The rest of the flick looks pretty solid too.

Silent Retreat also stars Chelsea Jenish and Sofia Banzhaf. Wanna know where you can see it? Head on over to the official website for the listings. Note, these are Canadian screenings.
